B. Functions of Cycling

1. Western

 

        In early centuries, bicycles mean transportation tool. They often used to deliver milks, mails, newspaper, and so on. So far, the definition of bicycles has lots of change. It extends to be a word “cycling”. Cycling means people travel some pleases by bicycle. Going cycling is the main activity. Besides, cyclist can be divided into two parts. One is the holiday cyclers which mean people go cycling for holidays. They can choose the route they are interested and cycle on more than one location. The other is short-break cyclers which mean people go cycling for each day of their rest. They can travel spectacular sites with their family and friends. In addition, they often take part in the cycling group.

 

They enjoy going cycling because of some reasons. They consider that cycling is the best to be energetic, save much money to travel other positions by plane and cars, and protect our earth because of reducing to use oil. Moreover, riding bicycle has a great deal of benefit for people. Cycling can strengthen people’s muscle, weaken the opportunity of getting disease, blood pressure, and have the well-being. Even, it can under control their weight. In western, now, cycling still has a number of functions like all above.

 

2. Eastern

 

        In early period, bicycles were used to transport some goods or just were as transportation tool to go there and back in short distance. In contrast, nowadays, bicycles bring different functions for cyclers. In 2008, the oil cost much money than before so that people became want to ride bicycles instead of take cars and motorcycles. Some people started to ride bicycles to save the cost of oil. Then, the bicycles are related to the sports, recreation, and leisure. A great deal of people has enthusiasm for bicycling. They consider that riding bicycles have many amusement of life. For instance, in summer, although they go cycling to the mountains which need lots of sweat and effort, they can have a sense of achievement because of reaching the top of mountains. Next, as they go cycling, they can catch a variety of scenery, directly get closer the nature, and enjoy the breeze. Even, if they are attracted by splendid scene, they can stop to see and enjoy the moment. They even can observe some species, ancient buildings, or different cultural people. Don’t you feel that they are getting closer the land or “taste” the nature by cycling?

 

In addition, when they go cycling at the first time, they would like to achieve their program by themselves. Yet, once they find that they very interested in cycling, they really desire to go cycling with people who have the same entertainment and speed. Moreover, after they realize clearly their companions whose vigor and fond route, they can go further to form a cycling of tour. Still, having their companion, they also maintain their companionship and exchange their thoughts about cycling by holding the regular activities of cycling.

 

Also, cycling is a kind of enjoyment of freedom. We can go cycling everywhere once we have enough energy to ride bicycles. Unlike, people go mountain climbing need to consider the time when they can get on the transportation. Cycling doesn’t be limited by time and places. They just follow their project to finish their cycling.

 

        The function of Western and Eastern are similar. Then, they still have a little difference. In Western, cycling seems a kind of exercise activity. They emphasize on health. On the contrast, in the Eastern, cycling seems a kind of traveling activity. They emphasize on the freedom and nature. We regard that people in Taiwan are much closer to the nature than western. They are fond of the breath of the nature. On the contrary, the western prefer to keep their shape and more attention to their ability of exercise.

A. History of Cycling

1. Historical Evolution

 

        In 1903, Japanese Occupation, bicycles saluted into Taiwan form Japan. In that time, bicycles had to cost 30 dollars which correspond to noble Benz in nowadays. Therefore, only Japanese and the rich in Taiwan could buy bicycles. In 1940s, some bicycles which produced from Japan were imported in Taiwan. Some people such as formers and businessmen began to ride bicycles to move goods or to substitute walking. After restoration of Taiwan, people in Taiwan began to produce bicycles. Nevertheless, the technique in Taiwan was not better than Japan, so the prize was cheaper than Japan. In addition, the government fostered the domestic industry of bike so that they prohibited the import of bicycles. With the government protection in 1950s, the cheap bikes became civilian, general and daily transportation. However, in 1968, the 50c.c motorcycles import in Taiwan from Japan. When more and more people ride motorcycles, the air pollution is becoming worse and worse. In so doing, we substituted motorcycles for bicycles. Besides, the concept of bicycles turns into an activity which was called cycling.

 

The following are some examples for cycling. In 1984, a man named Hu Jung-hua started his plans which travel around the world by bicycle. His plans always take years to accomplish. He kept journals that recorded what happened in the trip and how his feeling was. Besides, did you remember the movie called “Island Etude” in April, 2007? The movie described a man who needed hearing aids to communicate with the people, carrying broken guitar string, and starting from Kaohsiung to counterclockwise around the Taiwan. Because of Hu Jung-hua and the movie hitting the boxes, cycling seemed to become more and more popular. Then, people stared to go cycling. Nowadays, the population of cycling is gradually increasing. Hence, cycling makes people lead a different life in the world.

 

2. Meanings of Cycling

 

        In early times, bicycles were transportation for people. People went to other places by riding bicycles. Besides, people moved their possession by bicycles. Now, riding bicycles is kind of activity called cycling. Cycling is an action which people can travel around the island and take a long-distance trip. More and more people enjoy the cycling because it can make people relaxed, vigorous, and energetic. People reduce their pressure and comfort their uptight feeling by cycling. For example, a cycler, Peter van der Lans, considered cycling could encounter different counties people, go to see beautiful please, and go through life experience. Another example, Jason Chah Jien Shen, considered cycling was a challenge. He wanted to break Japanese records and achieved his goal. He also considered cycling could pursue the youth.

Summary of the Relevant Sources

We research the cycling, and search an article which cyclist recoded his experience. He, called Jason Chah Jien Shen, wrote his the process of the journey about cycling in Malaysia. To begin with, he felt like to do cycling because he was encouraged by Japanese who cycled over the Japan in a month. Therefore, Jason Chah Jien Shen would like to he become cyclist and promised to cycle a long-distance from home. Also, he wanted to cycle because of the pursuit of youth.

Then, although he had a dream to cycle, he didn’t plan well. After he found out the website which helped people to arrange their route and suggested them what they should pay attention to, he prepared his journey by looking someone else stories and experiences. Once he had questions, the site could answer and teach him how to do immediately. Soon, he finished his project of the journey.

Thus, he started his journey to cycle in Malaysia. It was the first time for him to cycle, so he encountered a problem. When he was biking, he felt something wrong. His seat was going to bend. If he didn’t notice the problem, his seat can be snapped. Few minutes ago, he called his friends to help him. Fortunately, there is a bicycle shop near there. He repaired his seat and change tires into new one. Then, he continued his journey of cycling.

Cycling few hours, he didn’t worry about that he didn’t have enough water. In Malaysia, you could have the water by the road side because there are some stalls. Then, the sky was becoming darker; he needed to stay cheaper inns, hotels or homestays. The cycling didn’t spend much money during the journey, so it was the best way for cyclist to stay in the inns. Besides, the innkeepers can keep our bicycles well, and we didn’t bother about our bikes can be stolen. Time flew; he had gone through his journey for six days.

At the last his journey day, he had already understand how wonderful he felt. As he cycled the long distance, he sang songs along and enjoyed the nature slowly, following the freeze. After few days cycling the island, he learned that he didn’t only read someone else the experience of cycling, but earned the unique, diverse life.

The article is about cycling. The author has been cycling for long time. When he was young, he had enthusiasm in cycling and often rode long distance. Then, growing up, he became seldom cycling until his friend talked some experience about cycling around Hungary. He thought it is a good idea, so he began his cycling journey. He traveled Europe by bike and slept in tent. He also took some photo on his journey. After something bed happening, he thought of bike again.
He often traveled some countries. He had been a backpacking for a year, but he felt he seemed lost something good. When he traveled, he encountered some people which had cycled and shared with some interesting experience. Then, he found what he lost before. It was cycling. He found cycling really meant to him. He didn’t want to stay in limit please. He wanted to go some beautiful please and encounter different people. So, he began to plan his journey. Nevertheless, he said even if you plan everything to detail, something may go wrong. One time, his bicycle was broken down on the journey. He went to the street to ask for help and his bike was fixed. He didn’t understand bicycle more, but he could solve the situation. In the cycling journey, there may be some unexpected questions. Cyclers have to overcome in time.
When he lived in England, he didn’t cycle for long. Because of the weather, it was too cold to ride bicycle and he moved to Malaysia. In there, he could cycle often. He had many plan and adventure to achieve. He would keep on cycling. We consider he love cycling so much, although his cycling life is off and on. Cycling is an activity which can encounter different counties people, go to see beautiful please, and go through life experience.

Introduction

Have you ever had experience riding bicycles? Can you have a wonderful feeling when you ride bicycles? There may be some pleasant feeling. There is a story about cycling. One day, Jack, who twenty-five year old, was chatting with his co-worker. Jack shared his experience of cycling on his way with Leo. After heard Jack’s words, he seemed to enjoy the cycling. After that, Jack and Leo were cycling together. Then, both Jack and Leo had themselves wife, but they didn’t have babies yet. Although they had families, they still rode bicycles for a long distance, even their wives accompanied them. After few years, they had babies. They didn’t lose their contact because of their families. They dated each other having cycling around the parts of Taiwan. On their journey, they had their wives and babies staying their side. Also, their friendship maintain for a long time by cycling. Thus, so far, their children grew up, and they still often ride bicycles together and cycle the place they didn’t take. They have impress experience riding bicycles. They can bring their family to travel some beautiful places, encounter different cultural people, and touch nature closely. Riding bicycle really brings good memories for some of people in the world.

In early times, bicycles are necessary transportation from here to there. Nevertheless, the advanced technological time is coming, so the bicycles are increasingly replaced by motorcycles or cars. After years, there still is a problem we need to resolve. The motorcycles and cars needs to have lots of oil. Besides, the oil is a limited resource for cars and motorcycles. Then again, in recent years, bicycles have become fashionable for transportation because of the change of concept.

Nowadays, a great number of people ride bicycles. Riding bicycles has many advantages. For instance, it can relax human’s pressure, strengthen people’s vigor, comfort men’s spirit to approach the nature, connect with friendship for good, etc. Also, people want to pursue a sense of freedom by recycling on their way. In addition, more and more people exchange their cycling experience. They write the experience on blog, or publish books about bicycles. When they exchange their experience, they may encounter some friends which interest in cycling. They would like to break their record, giving themselves many harsh challenges. Eventually, they not only have good companies joining the recycling, but also they can maintain their friendship for a long time, or even forever.

What are meanings of cycling? What is the historical development of bicycle-riding in Taiwan? What cycling functions are different from Western and Eastern? Since most of the people consider cycling sport and entertainment, what kinds of people go cycling? What steps do they prepare for their cycling? Where do they usually go cycling? What challenges do they overcome and when they encounter problem, how do they resolve? These questions are that we want to research. We will research these questions by internet, library, and newspaper. We will also do questionnaire to ask public and cyclers. If we ask people whether they ride bicycles, or even go cycling, the result may some of teenagers and adults enjoy the cycling or may be not limited by age deviations. Also, we will make a list of the top 10 pleases that cyclers favorite. Besides, we assume that cyclers in a group encounter problems better than cyclers by themselves. When people lose their way, they may corporately resolve the problem. In contrast, as cyclers by themselves face challenges, they only ask passers-by or someone else for help. In the research, we expect that cycling is not a fashion which appear suddenly and disappear quickly and that cycling can be promoted in our society for a long time. We look forward to people have a variety of life in cycling. Also, we hope cycling is a recreational sport not a kind of normal transportation.

Why the bicycles become so popular? Nowadays, we can see many bicycles everywhere on the street. And there are many people traveling or cycling by the bicycle. The government also began to construct many bike trails. Have you ever ride bicycle in your whole life and even have long-distance riding or cycling by bicycle? And why you want to have long-distance tiding or cycling by bicycle rather than other ways? Will not feel tired to do that by a bicycle? Does it have special meaning behind that? Is it because sense of speed and accomplishment, challenge your limits to chart record or jest to pursue a sense of freedom? Whether it because to break own record or someone else, to pursue a sense of achievement, ate that to extend the length of the ride. Even then gradually evolve into recycling and long-distance traveling. The above questions are all our curious and also want to understand.
We search the information from interviews, questionnaires, newspapers, internet, digital sources, journals, ate. There are someone said that because a movie “Island Etude” a film by en chen, the traveling or cycling by bicycling become general for people from young to old. We want to know how people are thinking about cycling. In the project, we expect that cycling is not a fashion which appear suddenly and disappear quickly and that cycling can be promoted in our society for long time. Introduction

Now, the traffic is disorder and many traffic accidents happen every day, but riding a bicycle is very popular. In early time, the bicycles are necessary transportation from here to there. Even the bicycles are also a working tool. Nevertheless, the advanced technological time is coming, so the bicycles are increasingly replaced by motorcycles or cars. The motorcycles and cars are transportation which needs to have lots of oil. Besides, the oil is a limited resource for cars and motorcycles. Once we use up the essential resource, we won’t take cars and motorcycles to everywhere and to working. Hence, in recent years, the bicycles are well-known for the transportation again. The bicycles are tools which can’t be worried about the problem of the lack of oil. Most of all, the bicycles don’t destroy the environment on the earth.

Nowadays, a great number of people enjoy riding a bicycle. When riding a bike, people can relax their pressure in the hustle and bustle of city life. It is not an advantage which releases the stress to ride a bike but becomes a training sport. It can strengthen people’s vigor, comfort men’s spirit to approach the nature, connect with friendship for good, etc. Riding a bicycle gets much benefit to people, so more and more people love the sports. To begin with, people ride the bike sometimes is very lonely, and also considering that the recycling belongs to the little lonesome world. By contrast, now the recycling turns into a group activity. Even, it can have three to seven people in a group or team to traveling around the island. They also would like to break their record, giving themselves many harsh challenges. Eventually, they not only have good companies joining the recycling, but also they can maintain their friendship for a long time, or even forever.

Why do people want to travel around the island by bicycle? When do people start to form a cycling team? After people break their record in cycling, how do they feel and what do they have an antique memory? During the recycling, what challenges do they overcome and when they encounter problem, how do they resolve? Above are our research questions. We propose to do a questionnaire to survey people who are interested in recycling. Maybe we can interview some people are cycling for a long time and ask them about their experience. We hope that we can help people know further that the cycling can make people have a variety of life. Most important of all, the cycling can give people another method to enjoy the life.

Essay about Project Learning

I think that research paper is a report. We have to combine our think and others, and find much information to support our idea, for example, we can go to library, interview several people and make mark search or search Internet. We also have right grammar and smooth text structure. I think that text structure can divide into three parts. First, we have to explain why we choose this theme, and choose the theme is very difficult and important, because we have to find that we interesting in and also we will choose the same theme like other. Second, we can use data that we find to prove our theory. Then, last, writing out general conclusion. The process to make the project that will be hard to do that if we choose the theme which many people have done. It is because we have to different with them and we must give the new conclusions or ideas. We also have to bring up many questions about our theme. Then, we must look for the answer to solve the problems, and we will not around the circle in the same way. I have read two reports at the High School Student's Website. That all discuss about men's skin care products. They just talk a phenomenon that everyone knows. They don't have any new things that will let everybody interesting in. Both them are all talk about something similar. It likes why and when have the man's skin care products. Then which products are popular by mans, and what composition does it have in the products. So, I think that we have to give some new composition in our project which also can make people interesting in, and not just keep describes a normal. I really feel that the project is so hard to me.

Reading one of the articles from the High School Student’s Website, I realize what the research paper it is, understand how we write the research paper, and figure out what we need the basic knowledge and skill when writing. The research paper is king of analytic, discussible, and critical report. For instance, if we choose a topic about what the stress is, we need to compile pieces of stress information, to analyze, discuss over and over, and to generalize them.

Yet, what does the content of the research paper contain? After we collect a great deal of information from the library, website, or newspaper, we have to give some evidence to prove that my research is correctly. We can give the survey and statistic to testify my research. Also, the result of the analysis can be an evidence for our paper. It doesn’t write what we would like to say but present the exactly data in the research like the market survey, statistic, or photograph. In the research, we can divide our content into four parts such as introduction, thesis, survey and analysis,summary,and reference. First, we can generally introduce our topic. Second, we explain what our research is in thesis. Third, we start to analyze our information by offering charts and give more evidence in order to prove our research which is exactly not just give our view point. Fourth, we summarize the research with our thoughts and end it in a good research. Last, that is important to do; we need to put the source of the information in the research.

Nevertheless, before we do the research, we have something to prepare. We need to have basic knowledge to our topic, and even we all are interested in the topic. If we don’t enjoy the topic, we can do a nice research paper. Also, when we write our paper, we need to generalize much pieces of information, and analyze them carefully. During we write the research, we have to read lots of articles and reference book. Then, we should try to compare those information what they are true or false. Finally, we arrange the research clearly. To be a qualified research, we need to revise our research again and again.

Project Learining Assignment

Our teacher asks us read the articles that are written by the others and are related to our topic in High School Students’ Website. After reading over the article, we have to reply some questions. I choose some of them and read them so that I understand what the article contains mostly.

First, what is a research paper? The research paper records what you research and what you think about the topic. It is different from essay that just writes. You have to do research constantly until you get a good conclusion. In the process, you have to study a lot of information from library or internet. Sometimes, you even need to make a questionnaire and interview people. Then, you have to arrange them and you may get a new conclusion which nobody has ever found.

Second, what is an elements does it contain? The paper often divides into four parts. First, it is an introduction. You have to introduce what the origin of the topic, why you choose the topic, and what the destination is. For example, one of the papers introduces Punk. They introduce its definitions and its history. They also explain their destination and how to do it. Second, it is the thesis. You can write the information that you already have arranged and analyzed in there. For example, many of the papers make a questionnaire and interview public. They make figures to reveal the results and analyze the results. Third, it is the conclusion. Through the research, you have to make a conclusion. You can give your view point that you analyze the data yourselves. You may give the new, creative conclusion. Fourth, it is the reference. You have to put the origin of the data on there. You also can put the questionnaire.

Third, what basic knowledge or skill do you need when writing it? I think I need good analysis to analyze the data; I need to skepticize something that looks like true. You also need better writing skills so that the others can understand your project clearly. When you begin the project, you have to read a lot of data about the topic to increase the background knowledge.
Finally, I wish our project will success and get a prize.

My name is Lina. My nickname called 奶子. I’m studying the third grade in senior high school. I’m good at singing. But I love English world. I really enjoy studying English. When I learn English, I always have passion for doing about English assignment such as learning sheets. Also, I like to read aloud English articles in senior high school, so my pronunciation is much better than before. Now, I have to learn how to write an essay. Although I wrote many essays in last semester, I thought my writing skill is not good enough. I hope that I can write better essays in this semester. Finally, I have a goal which I will be successful with my team work such as Project Learning, Web-based English, and studying partner.

For example, watch movies or TV, use computer, read novel, get together with friends…. 1. The Living Stress in City
Why and how: We think now people face a lot of stress in life. We want to research how people reduce and release their stress. What do people have such a big stress in their life? What kind of the stress do we have in life?

Why and how: We choose the Burt’s Bees to research. We want to make sure how to use skin care products. When we use the skin care products, what do we need to use at the first step, the second step etc. Are the expensive skin care products much better? How define the quality skin care products?

3. Is the Law All Right?
Why: We choose two pieces of recent news to research. One is an intelligent challenge girl was violated by incentive. But the judge sentenced the seven criminals to innocence. The other is a three-year girl was violated and the girl yelled at, “She didn’t want to.” But the judge consider that the event don’t testify the girl is unwilling to doing it. So the judges retract the retrial. After we read the news, we decide to study what the judge define sentence. Does the bribed judge really know what the fair is? Does the world have the justice really?
